Module 3.D – Geocomposite Membranes as Pavement Interlayers Applications and Installation (1.0 PDH Credit) by A. Berry

Introduction

This module examines the application and installation of polymer based, pavement interlayer strip membranes.  These membranes range in strengths to meet specific pavement rehabilitation requirements, but they all offer a waterproofing function.  When used as an interlayer for pavement rehabilitation, the waterproofing function helps reduce the migration of water into the subgrade soils, which would reduce the total bearing capacity of the pavement section.  When used as part of a waterproof system on a bridge deck or parking garage structure, the waterproofing feature protects the metallic components of the structure, from degradation and failure.

In this module, you will learn about four distinct types of composite membranes, each specifically suited to perform within a pavement per a given design requirement.  You will also learn about other compatible adhesive, sealer and mastic components that are often required to insure that the membrane system performs as expected.
